Black Specks Around Cats Mouth
Q: My cat has black specks around her mouth, what are they?
A: It could be feline acne. If you are using plastic food or water bowls you may want to replace them with ceramic ones. The acne will become irritated when the cat is eating because their bowls may be rubbing against its chin which the cat is unable to clean properly. The bowls may in some cases harbour bacteria which can lead to the development of feline acne.
Some people advise 'popping' the acne, which as pointed out is not particularly pleasant, but some owners claim it doesn't really bother the cats. But, remember all cats are not the same, so you may want to take a bit of advice from a vet. Other owners advice the gentle wiping of your cats chin with a stridex pad.
