There are many symptoms that your cat might display if it has become infected with cat worms.  The symptoms usually vary from cat to cat, and actually can depend on the overall health of the animal.  Naturally, if your cat is older and already struggling with a weakened immune system, the symptoms might be more severe, and more detrimental to the animal.

Cats that have worms, may show such common symptoms as vomiting, overall weakness, lethargy, significant weight loss, and diarrhea.  Sometimes in cats with worms, the only noticeable symptom is weight loss.  Unfortunately, by the  time the cat owner recognizes this weight loss visibly, it can be to late for significant results.  This is why it is highly recommended that your cat have regular checkups at the local veterinarian, which should include stool samples.  There are some veterinarians who recommend a more frequent examination of the feces, especially if the cat is frequently outdoors and exposed to feces of other animals.  Remember, sometimes new born kittens can contract worms through their mothers milk.

Cat owners should also note any significant changes in a cats eating habits.  At times it has been reported that a cat that has been infected with worms shows signs of a decreased appetite.  If your cat  has been infected with worms, the intestinal tract has been effected as well, which in turn will effect the cats appetite.  Dehydration is also another concern with a cat who was been infected with worms.  Cat owners should make certain that fresh and adequate drinking water is provided to your cat on a daily basis.

Cat worms are not to be taken lightly.  Cat worms can cause significant stress in your animal.  Cat worms can multiply rapidly in the cat and can be transferred from one cat to another.  Cat worms if neglected can make a significant impact on your cats overall health.  Again, it is highly recommended that pet owners have their cats examined regularly for worms.
