Help! Could I Have Worms?

Monday, July 12th, 2010

This is serious and I’m scared. I came back from college for the spring break and was around my cat. She later turned up having worms. She was on bed and even rubbed against my face. Now I’m scared I could have them too. I have been losing weight, but that could be from stress (finals) and other sickness. But now I have a strange feeling in my throat and I’m scared. It feels like something is stuck in it or maybe crawling up. I have bad allergies so I have a lot of mucus. But I’m so afraid it is something because I have had this weird feeling all day. Can someone help me I’m really afraid. Can I die?

My Cat Has Worms And It Looked Like A White Worm Around The Rectal Area Was Red And Swollen Could It Be A Worm

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Okay I don’t know what people are saying here but if it’s small and white like a piece of rice, it’s a tapeworm. If they are really long it might be ringworm.
No need to be alarmed, LOTS of animals get this and it’s easily removed. You get tapeworm when the pet accidentally swallows a dead flea (when they are grooming and scratching themselves)…DO NOT GIVE THEM THE STUFF YOU BUY AT GROCERY STORES OR PET STORES!! Sometimes pets have bad seizures from those. Get your deworming medication from a vet.

Could My Indoor Cat Be Infected By Stray?

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

I noticed a stray cat outside, broke my heart because he’s limping and crying all the time. I only noticed the limp yesterday and it seems worse today. I do leave little food and water bowls out there for him, I don’t mind that he comes around. Anyways, because he’s injured, I called a shelter to see if someone can come pick him up, I’m convinced he’s a stray because his ears are filthy and I don’t think an owner would leave their cat to limp like that. I have 2 indoor cats, healthy and vaccinated and everything… when I took the stray’s bowls inside to wash it out and refill, I set it on the dining table to take the phone call from the shelter (I was on hold and someone picked up) and my cat started to eat out of the food bowl… probably a good 5-10 seconds. I’m scared he might have drank the water, too and perhaps might get a parasite or feline AIDS, how possible do you think it is considering my cats are vaccinated and don’t have regular contact with stray??

Recurrent Diarrhea In My Sisters Cat, What Could Be The Cause?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

My sister’s 6 yr old cat has a problem with diarrhea every now and then. The vet took blood, stool samples and found nothing. She is in good health otherwise and see’s a vet regularly. She is obese, and it makes it hard because my sister has to clean her bum since she has a hard time. Her cat is also very picky and will only eat Whiskas.. Crap food I know, so does my sister. But when she tries to switch it, the cat either refuses or eats it and gets the runs. What can my sister give her on a regular basis to help her cat keep her bowels healthy? I fed her some rice but she wasn’t too keen on it. I’m thinking since all infection, parasite etc was ruled out that her cat just has an imbalance in the regular healthy bacteria of the bowel… So what can we do to restore balance and reduce her bouts of diarrhea?

Could The Vets Probe Have Hurt My Little Guy?

Monday, February 15th, 2010

My ten week old male kitten went to the vet for the first time today. The vet had a really hard time getting a stool sample with the probe. I’ve NEVER had a cat have such a bad reaction to a probe. Now, for the first time since I’ve had him, he’s had some blood under his tail after going to the litter box. He had no parasites at all and has never had a loose or bloody stool before. Could the probe have hurt him to make him bleed?

What Could My Feline Have?

Monday, February 15th, 2010

It seems to be some sort of intestinal parasite/worm, yet looks like maggots (not like the usual tapeworm). Round worm OTC medications seems to have no effect on it. My other 2 cats don’t seem to have it though. Does anyone know what it might be and any possible home treatments?

Was My Cat’s Tail Wound Self-inflicted? Could It Be Feline Ocd?

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Pepper is an indoor only, 10 year old spayed female with no history of health problems*. Last night, she began SCREAMING and franticly spinning in circles on the staircase with blood splattering everywhere. Another cat was near her but didn’t look as if he attacked her. I rushed Pepper to the emergency. She received stitches and a bandage around her tail. I explained to the vet that there was something very wrong here. I know my cats. I know feline tones better than many cat owners. Pepper’s frantic behavior was not normal even for such an injury. I didn’t know what on earth to think; only that she was not attacked. The vet was insistent on it just being a case of feline “moodiness” and that the teeth puncture wounds verified it was an attack. I was forcing myself to accept that theory despite my instincts until I saw Pepper biting her wrapped tail and growling at it as if it were a threat. I now believe her injury was self-inflicted.
I’ve done research and the two main causes for this behavior are fleas and feline OCD. She has monthly flea medication and no flea dust which rules out the first. That leaves OCD. But my understanding is that OCD is not sudden. Another thing Google came up with was Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome but she doesn’t exhibit any of the other symptoms. I’m leaning toward this being a mental thing because she only starts attacking her tail once she sees it. She’s look at it for a few seconds and then lunge. If it were fleas or parasites she’d be reaching for it suddenly. It’s the tip of her tail only (base mutilation associated with parasites). She’s not interested in the base or midsection. Please, please help me figure out what’s causing this behavior. Any suggestions are very welcome.
I have a flight Tuesday and am scared to death to leave her. She will be taken care of by her co-owners for the next 3 weeks but they can’t watch her 24/7 like I can. I intent on purchasing one of those cylinders that go around the necks to use when she can’t be supervised. I hate to do that but I don’t want her to mutilate herself again. Nor can I afford anymore $200 vet bills but will gladly pay that and more if Pepper needs it.
*The only health issues she’s ever had was about 5 years ago. She’d eat until the point of vomiting. The vet put her on prescription Science Diet which consists of large chunks which take longer to chew. A month or more on this food cured the problem. She is a healthy weight now and eats fine.

My Cat Has Diarrhea ,yesterday I Noticed Blood In It,what Are Some Things That Could Cause This?

Friday, February 12th, 2010

we got her less than two weeks ago,she came from a lady who lived way out in the country.the mother cat was under-weight and malnourished, the 3 other kittens had the same symptoms
(except for the blood) but 2 of them recovered, and the 3rd continues to have diarrhea without blood. the fourth kitten(my cat coco) has gotten worse.she is still very active and playful, eating and drinking well, but im worried it might get worse, and she might deteriorate and maybe die if its something serious. i would like to know of any diseases or parasites that could cause this.

Can A Pregnant Cat Get Worms And What Kind Of Worms Could They Be? Can The Worms Harm The Mother Or Kittens?

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Yes and Yes! Check out:http://www.ah.novartis.com/pet_health/en…
They can get hookworm, roundworm(moms give to kittens thru milk), and tapeworms. You can read about these at the website. And yes they can do great harm to the mother and kittens. So I Highly suggest you take the mother the the vet and they will give her dewormer (should be taken to the vet every year for this and other things). Dewormer will take care of everything. But afterwards if they had worms you will see the dead ones in their poop and theres a good chance the dewormer will give her diarrhea for a day or 2 which is normal.
