Dog fleas (Ctenocephalides canis) are very rare in the United States and are most commonly found in European countries. They are very similar in appearance to the cat flea and can only be differentiated by very small morphological differences with the use of a microscope.
The most common parasite on your dog will actually be a CAT flea. Dog fleas are commonly found in Europe, while cat fleas are very common to the U.S. Cat fleas are not picky about who they feed on. Cat fleas can, in rare cases, carry disease. Also, if ingested can cause tape worm. The cat flea has been found to carry the plague and murine typhus to humans.

My cats keep getting tapeworms about every 6 months. We did have a flea problem in the summer time, but we got rid of them. I did research on tapeworms, and they get them from fleas. I vaccum, flea comb the cats, change the litter regularly, and they still get them.
I am not sure if the house being super humid all the time has something to do with it.
I am baffled as to where they come from, and the vet medicine is costing me a fortune!

he’s been coming around for about 10 days and i feed him everynight.
this cat is infested with fleas and even worse …ear mites.
i have gotten him to the point where i can wave my hand over him while he eats.
if i drop flea drops on him (revolution) between the shoulders, will it soak through the hair enough to do any good?
the revolution drops kill worms and earmites too.
once he gets a little calmer…i’ll be trapping him and taking him to the vet for rabies shot and whatever else he might need plus have him tested for any disease he may be carrying. that is down the road in a few weeks though, and i need to deal with the parasites now.
thanks in advance!

To put it bluntly I have a dirty stop out cat named Oliver :p
He goes out for days and I really do not know where he goes but I have noticed he has brought fleas to the home, with panic we have brought all sorts for the home and for the other animals, they are all upto date with fleaing and worming so I am really quite upset about Oliver ;(
To make it worse I rescued a cat about 6 weeks ago she came to me already pregnant…was very shocked! well I checked her kittens over and they have them now they are a week and 1 day old. is there anything I can do for them?
Like dilute any flea treatment I have at home to put them out of missory or wash them or something???
” all kittens have homes, going to friends only so I know they will be looked after well and I am also keeping one, My mama cat is being spayed once litter is rehomed
thanx for any replies

I have called a number of vets and have heard different things. Two say they are extremely contagious and I have to bleach my whole house. Three say tapeworms are only transmitted through fleas so I should treat all animals for fleas and tapeworms. Another vet said they are usually only transmitted through flea bites but if my cat (who now has tapeworms too) ate one of the worms then she could have gotten it that way. I just don’t know what the best treatment is. The new puppy I adopted had tapeworms but none of my animals appear to have any fleas. Wouldn’t you see fleas around ears and belly if the animals had them? Please help me figure out how to prevent the rest of the family from getting sick and how to get rid of the tapeworms permanently.

I realized about a month ago that my cat has fleas. I had treated him with a topical and the next morning my son’s socks were covered with fleas. Anyway, I spent that day cleaning up then went to the vet and bought spray and Capstar pills. I gave my cat a pill then I sprayed all my carpets and under everything in the house. I then brought my cat home and washed him. I was told not to put more topical on him. I waited a week to vacuum as advised. I was still finding fleas so the next weekend I bombed my home. It didn’t seem to help either so I went to the vet. I was told I could wash my cat again and use another topical treatment since I washed the first off 48 hours after application (and there being zero relief from fleas). Its been two weeks and I am still finding up to ten fleas on my cat per day. I have vacuumed every day (I have put a piece of flea collar in it, or sprayed it with the stuff I used to treat my home. I also throw the bag away every couple days), used a flea comb on my cat at least once a day. I have even used borax on my carpets and around the edges of the carpeting and linoleum. Nothing seems to be working. He got worms(I treated those two weeks ago). Now he has a sore that appears to be getting worse. He keeps licking it. I put a veterinary grade neosporine on it, but he licked it off. I hope it isn’t ring worm. I have spent about $200 dollars on this and I literally have nothing left to spend. Any advice? I’m exhausted…and broke!! Will getting rid of the cat help or will the bugs just bite me and my son (I’ve only gotten a couple of what I think may have been bites and he hasn’t gotten any).
