Should I Keep My Cat Or Give It Away?

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

i have lymph nodes on my neck. the bigger one was taken out 2 weeks ago so. the doctor had no idea what cause me having all those lymph nodes so they have to take out one as a sample and bring it to the lab to examine it.
i finally got the result 3 days ago. the result is – the reason i have those lymph nodes is because toxoplasmosis. it is a parasitic disease caused by the protozoan toxoplasma gondii. one source said – the parasite infect most warm-blooded animals, including humans but the primary host is CAT.
the doctor advised me to get rid of the cat, by simply saying – give it away. but i love cat. i love having cat as one of my family. i have a dog too.
is there any way i can do to keep my cat? by giving it a vaccine injection, will it help?

I have to give my cat worm medicine through an oral syringe. I have already tried once and he flipped out, even though I was restraining him in a blanket while someone else gave him the medicine. Anyone have any creative ideas for making this process easier?

Can A Pet Rat Give A Cat Worms?

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

My roommate just brought her pet cat from her parents house to live with us in our apartment last weekend. I’ve had my pet rat, Milly, since September 5th. She now thinks her cat has tapeworm, and I’m afraid everyone is blaming my rat :[ Milly’s fur is light, and I’m pretty positive that she doesn’t have fleas. She also has no signs of tapeworm as far as I can tell. I just noticed that she and the cat seem super thirsty lately. Any help?? I’m tired of feeling like she’s getting blamed!
They’re both going to the vet tomorrow, fyi. I just need someone to reassure me :\

Rescued Kitten – Keep Or Give Away?

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Yesterday I rescued a kitten off of the interstate. When I found her, she was filthy and had fleas/mites, approximately 8 weeks of age (she’s 2.5lbs). I brought her home with me and gave her a bath, cleaned her ears, trimmed her nails, brushed her several times with a flea comb and gave her a treatment of Revolution. This morning, I did the flea comb again, and then I took her to the Banfield Animal Hospital in Petsmart since they are open on Sundays. There she had a physical and was tested for Feline Leukemia, given a fecal exam, and treated for worms and given a pill to kill any remaining fleas within 30 minutes.
My initial plan was to find a good home for her, all of the shelters down here are kill shelters, and I just don’t see the logic of rescuing her from the highway so that she could be euthanized. Problem is – she’s an absolutely adorable, affectionate, sweet kitten and I’m getting attached!
I have 2 cats already, one who is 5 years old, the other is 10 months old. Thai, the 10 month old cat, loves the kitten and they will play. Bella, the 5 year old, is still a bit angry about her being here. First question – I live in a 1 bedroom apartment. It’s not horribly small, but does having 3 cats make me a crazy cat lady or pet lover? Second question – what do you think keep her/give her away? I know what I want to do, but I wonder if its the best decision for the other 2 cats.
What’s your opinions!?

I Give My Cat Mild Everyday In The Morning. Just A Little.. Can That Give The Cat Worms?

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Think about it–if you think worms come from milk – and you are giving store bought milk – why don’t WE have worms?
The FDA would shut down any site that sells contaminated food. Milk does not come out of the cow with parasites swimming in it. It’s cooled, then homoginized before being bottled, and it’s tested at the facility that does the bottling. If there’s antibiotics in the milk from the cow being treated for something, the milk is discarded.
Worms live in the intestines of animals. No milk comes from the intestines.
Cats get worms from eating prey that has parasites in their intestines. Or from ingesting fleas that may have the larvae stage of tapeworm in them (they’re part of the tapeworm life cycle). They don’t get it from milk.

Did My Cats Give Me Worms? Plz Help!?

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

To make a long story short, I think I got worms from my cats. I believe I accidentally ingested a flea or one of the actual worms, and now I’m having significant problems. My symptoms include stomach cramps, always being hungry, feeling drained like I’m not getting anything nutritious out of my meals, and my “stool” has mucous in it, and little holes that look exactly like worms have been eating right through it like termites. I’m eating food like crazy, at least 2x as much as I normally eat. I just cannot fill myself up. But the main symptom that is the most abnormal, is when I go #2. It’s just really loose and mucousy, and riddled with holes.
And yesterday I came down with a fever, and just overall I got really sick. Runny nose, coughing, sore throat, head and body aches, dizziness, the whole 9.
My stomach is very active, always growling and churning. I REALLY think I have the same worms that my cats had.
My old apartment at one time had 7 cats living in it. I know some of my room mates cats had worms because I’ve seen them crawl out of the cat’s butt, and I found one ON ME on time. It was about 1 cm long, similar to a grain of rice, and had a tube-like body. But it wasn’t “dried up”, it was very much alive.
Another thing, we had a pretty bad flea infestation at one point for about a month. It took us a month or so to get the money to take the cats to the vet and buy flea bombs for the house.
All this information is leading me to believe I have some sort of a worm infestation passed to me one way or another from my cats. Yes, I plan to go to the doctor, but I don’t have insurance.
I just want my normal appetite back, and to feel healthy again.
Is it really worms? What should I do??
