It can spread the worms to other cats. But depending on the type of worm it is will depend on if it can be spread to humans. I would take the cat to the vet to get a fecal done and get some preventative for it.

There are 2 types of worms that can be passed from cats to humans…Roundworms and Hookworms.
The eggs of these worms are sticky and can get stuck on your hands or under your fingernails, and if you don’t wash up well enough, you could ingest the eggs and get worms.
I don’t know what “wooval” worms are, though.
I work at an animal hospital after school as a tech assistant, and I just learned how to find worm eggs in fecals under a microscope. Hope this helps.

Yes they are, but it’s not that difficult to avoid.
Cats can carry a species of tapeworm that can cause a disease called toxoplasmosis, but it’s mostly only harmful to pregnant woman or more precisely, unborn foetuses.Toxoplasmosis can be fatal in people with weak immune systems, but healthy adults don’t really show symptoms.
Humans can become infected by round or tapeworms, but basic hygiene should prevent this, and of course regular worming will prevent them becoming pregnant in the first place.

I would assume not, but I know that one of our cats has worms. He’s taking worm tablets for them. He hasn’t lost weight and seems fine, but lately I’ve noticed I’ve been losing weight. It’s not dramatic, but I was at a point where I was steadly gainging, and at my last appt. the scale read that I’d lost 4 lbs. I’ve always had a hard time ganing weight, but I’ve been eating like crazy lately and keep losing. My pants are fitting looser. Is it possible at all that I could’ve contracted worms?

Sure. If they are infected and they lick your face, or your hands (and you eat without washing them). You can tell you’ve got ‘em when you get this uncontrollable urge to scoonch your butt accross the floor…

Last night I saw a TV program “Eaten Alive” which was about parasites that can infect humans. I was amazed when they said that 1.5 billion people around the world are infected by some sort of parasite. One of my cats vomited a roundworm once (he has been treated and gets de-worming medicine every 3 months). I had never seen a roundworm in real life…it looked like it was from another planet. My question is, how common is it for humans in the United States to be infested? Out of the 1.5 billion infected people, does anybody know how many are in the U.S.A.? I’m not paranoid about it, just curious.

My first cat, Jemima, was a mixed breed, healthy cat when we got her but her one side of her head swelled up alot. We took her to the vet but were convinced she mustve run into a wall (she did that too, madly, constantly.) Then she got worms in her stomach and lost alot of weight. We treated her carefully for that too, and she recovered. We let her outside for a bit and she went mad, running around crazilly and hiding whenever I tried to bring her back inside, bacause she wouldnt on her own accord. Maybe she caught something but just before my family and I moved away and left her in the care of a friend, but she started getting the swollen ears and head again. Shed scratch herself and was going mad, and I was told shortly after we left that she would scratch herself until she bled. The vets did many extensive and expensive treatments on her, but they had to put her down. What went wrong? She was only about a year old. Beautiful thing too.
