Cat Owners: I Need Your Advice Pleaze?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

My Kitty TIgre has thrown up for the past two days 4 times.
There’s no hair or worms in the puke. I called the vet, and she said it was normal since I am giving him sulfadimet for this parasite he has. My question is how can I make it better for him, he’s obviously upset, and sad, and it breaks my heart. Is there anything I can do besides pet him?

Need Help Fast For Skinny Cat.?

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

I have a cat that has worms but the treatment takes 14 days. Hes been on it for 6 days, but he’s still losing so much muscle and weight. He’s eating and drinking quite fine, but the vet said it just takes time. He looks like he’s running out of time. What is a good food/s or supplements to help the poor old guy from losing so much weight ’til he’s all better? Dude will eat just about anything even veggies. Like a dog in a cat suit. He has a long treatment because he was so wormy they said a sudden or quick one would hurt him. These meds are supposed to kill all the worms cats get, but my main worry is he’s got so skinny and weak.
No offense to vets, but ours isn’t much help except in the money taking department.
Thank you from me and Nash for your help.

Need An Inventive Way To Give My Cat Medicine?

Friday, February 19th, 2010

I have to give my cat worm medicine through an oral syringe. I have already tried once and he flipped out, even though I was restraining him in a blanket while someone else gave him the medicine. Anyone have any creative ideas for making this process easier?

Need (fast) Advise On Complicated Situation Involving Cat Attacking Tail?

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

My 10 year old, indoor only, spayed female cat Pepper has viciously attacked her tail twice to the point of bleeding. The first time, she got stitches at emergency vet (didn’t know at time it was self-inflicted, although I insisted to vet my other cats didn’t do it) Second vicious attack was day before vet appt. to remove stitches.
Second vet prescribed her Valum and is keeping her a couple nights (with Elizabethan collar). He said her tail is so bad at the end it might need amputated. Shouldn’t this be a last resort? But what else can I do considering I can’t use bitter apple spray or any other spray since she has an open wound on her tail. It seems like if the Valum don’t work, there are no other options left… other than wearing the collar for the rest of her life. I want what’s best for her and surgery is seeming like the right option. Considering how bad she maimed it, it sounds like it’s probably going to happen. The down side to this is, as I was reading, someone else on Yahoo who had to resort to surgery… the vet had to leave a stub (as cutting it off entirely would cause incontinence) which the cat still attacked. It would just kill me if Peppers tail was amputated all for nothing.
The vets didn’t seem to know much, just jumping to the conclusion this is a behavioral issue. I agree but don’t think we should rule out brain tumors, hyperesthesia syndrome, feline aids, ect… Any advise on this?
Pepper is with co-owners now, as I am out of state caring for sick grandma. I’m going absolutely mad not being able to be there for my kitty during all this. I don’t have nearby wi-fi so I had to take a bus to public library to ask this and do more research. I only have an hour (which explains poor spelling/grammer) until next bus so I really need advise soon. I really don’t want to have a panic attack in the library.
<<>>
I have already done research on this and know a little about the possible causes. It is 100% a behavioral issue because….
1). Pepper was taken away from her mum too soon and has had clingy issues consequently. She has “kneaded” since she was a kitten. At 4-5 years old she rapidly gained weight and suddenly began eating so much to the point of vomiting. The vet put her on hard to chew prescription Science Diet TD so she’d eat slower. A couple months and the problem was gone.
2.) She doesn’t attack the tail out of the clear blue as would be the case with fleas or parasites. It’s only when she’s looking in the direction of her still tail.

My Cat Is Too Skinny! I Need Him To Gain Weight. (read Inside For More) Help, Please?

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

My cat, who is about three years old, is skinny. I feed him regularly, at regular times, but he’s soooo tiny >__< I want to go to the vet's, but it's just too much damn money. He's so precious to me though!! I want to try adding eggs into his hairball formula (he has dreadful hairball episodes… He grooms himself more than he breathes x__x), but I heard it only works well with dogs.
As far as I'm concerned, he eats two to three times a day. Or three or four… But four is definitely the max. My mom just says he's outside all day, and he runs off all of his calories. But whenever I come home from school, he's just lounging on the porch, grooming himself or sleeping!!
Should I be concerned about internal parasites?
Are eggs and the food mixed together a healthy and safe alternative than his regular hairball formula?
HELP!!

My Cat Has Worms And I Have Just Treated Him With A Spot On Dewormer. Is This All I Need To Treat Him With?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

If you treated him with “Revolution” then you treated him for the whole enchilada. All the worms and fleas and ticks will soon die. Same with Advantage and Feline Frontline and Advantage.
They are all very safe for the cat but kill all those parasites. If you got it over the counter at a pet store then let’s hope you don’t kill your cat.

I Need Cat Help Now!?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Ok since August my cat has had Chronic Diarrhea. Last month I finally saved up enough money to take the poor thing to the vet. The vet was wonderful and ruled out worms and other parasites in the poop. Then they gave her an antibiotic shot and a steroid shot. About a week ago the runs came back so I took her back to the vet. They again gave her a seriod shot and gave me some type of medicine with a syringe filled with something and about 10 white pills. It was supposed to help her digestive track. I started her on it three days ago and now she’s lethargic, won’t drink, won’t eat, and is throwing up. On top of that the diarrhea is worse.
She is very very finicky about her water and will only drink from one of those cat water fountains. My fiancee had accidentally unplugged it and I didn’t know until today. Could this be dehydration (her skin is still snapping back into place and her fur is still glossy) or is my cat really really sick. I really can’t afford to take her back to the vet. Someone please help.
