Parasites Or Fungal?or Just The Weather…?

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

My cat has been shedding alot here lately. Haven’t thought too much of it considering the weather in my area has been hot then cold and then back again- I assumed he was just shedding cause the weather had his body upset. Today my fiance cleaned a table my cat likes to lay on and saw lots of hair and little black specks. I know what you are thinking and its not flea dirt due to the fact my cat has no fleas! We are not sure what they are some of them even curl at the ends. Along with that we saw two small patches of hair missing near his face but that could be from playing with the other pets. Any thoughts or ideas on what this could be is appreciated. Just would like to know if it is a serious enought thing where i need to be taking him to the vet. Thanks!

Can I Get Ear Mites And Parasites From My Girlfriend’s Kitten?

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Hey guys, I got my girlfriend a kitten for Christmas from a friend’s barn. Long story short, it cost us both $500 in vet bills at an emergency vet visit. Not as “free” as I thought. Anyways, the kitten has ear mites, a protruding anus that leaks poo everywhere, and possible parasites. Whenever I am over at my girlfriends house, especially her room where the kitten stays the majority of the time, I feel very uncomfortable. There are poo stains on the carpet everywhere (which I am cleaning today with a steam cleaner), but I just get worried the most when I lay on the bed with her. Paranoid maybe? Another thing that worries me is that she is really hands on with the cat, she gives it meds, cleans the poo up from the carpet, and lets the cat lick her hand/neck area. I have told her to wash her hands before we “get physical”, but she kind of gets mad at me, very defensive. I get really worried about where her hands have been, and where they are going on me…. can someone tell me how likely it is to contract these things from the kitten? I am heading over there in about 30 min, so I just need a heads up from the team!
Thanks guys

Constipation From Stomach/intestinal Parasites? Advice Please!?

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Okay, for about 2-3 weeks lately, I’ve been having constipation and when I do have a bowel movement, it’s not as much as it should be. This struck me as alarming so I went and saw several doctors and got cat scans, which showed everything is alright.
So please, first off don’t recommend me to see a doctor – I already did.
The only thing that showed up on the cat scan was a cyst on my right ovary which my doctor said was completely normal and harmless and should go away on it’s own. I was ovulating.
So that brings me to this: I’m wondering, might I have parasites?
How can I tell if I have parasites?
Better yet, how do I get rid of parasites naturally?
How do I get my bowel movements back to normal?
Normally, I have about 3 bowel movements a day.
Lately, I’ve been having like 1 movement every couple of days which is not normal to me.
How do I regulate my bowel movements?
I’ve also had strained urination and the doctor said there’s no explanation for that.
Please help with meaningful suggestions!! Thanks. I’m only 18 by the way.

Possible Parasites? Help!?

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

For the past several months I’ve noticed added fatigue, muscle/join pain, bloating, gas, irregular stool (constipation suddenly going to diarea and back) and what appears to be tiny white “balls” like little beads in my stool. I’ve suspected parasites but after seeing the 1″-2″ white “threads” today I got scared. I have studied some Vetrinary Technology and know how to look for signs of parasite infections in the stool of cats & dogs, but never in humans. Can someone help me figure out what the “threads” and “white balls” are or at least point me in the right direction? The medical center in this city isn’t worth 2 cents and I really don’t trust them!

Aren’t Parasites Everywhere?

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Aren’t they everywhere? Aren’t these good sources?
1) My cat’s asshole as she doesn’t take shower everyday and she sits everywhere.
2) Outdoor activities bring germs and possible parasites into out home.
3) My grandma never washes her hands after planting and touching mud.

How Do You Feel About Mind Control Parasites?

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

What are your thoughts about mind control parasites?
Mind-Control Microbe
A parasitic infection can give you schizophrenia, make you have a car crash, or determine the sex of your child.
by Kathy A. Svitil
Five years ago, Oxford University zoologists showed that the parasite Toxoplasma gondii alters the brain chemistry of rats so that they are more likely to seek out cats. Infection thus makes a rat more likely to be killed and the parasite more likely to end up in a cat—the only host in which it can complete the reproductive step of its life cycle. The parasite also lives in the brain cells of thousands of species, including about 60 million supposedly symptom-free Americans. Studies over the past few years have suggested that toxoplasmosis infections in humans, too, may cause behavioral changes—from subtle shifts to outright schizophrenia. Two studies this year add even weirder twists.http://discovermagazine.com/2007/feb/tox…

Any Feline Intestinal Parasites That Look Like A Caterpillar?

Friday, February 5th, 2010

A few minutes after my cat went to the litter box today I caught him playing with something on the floor. Closer inspection showed it was something looking like a fat gray caterpillar maybe 1-2 inches long. This doesn’t look like any parasite I know of but I got the feeling it might have been something that came from him and he picked off his hair after. Could any parasite that would infect a cat be this large and fit this morphology? It in no way resembled a roundworm’s “spaghetti” like appearance.

Can You Tell Me If These Scientific Names For These Parasites Are Right? (details)?

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

THIS ISN’T HOMEWORK – so don’t yell at me! It’s for a competition I’m studying for later on this month.
I need the scientific names for the following parasites, I already have some of them so let me know if they’re right.
Hookworm = Uncinaria Stenocephala
Tapeworm (rabbit or flea) = NEED
Roundworm = Trichinella Spiralis
Whipworm = Trichuris Vulpis (dog) / Campanula (cat)
Heartworm = Dirofilaria immitis
Mites (sarcoptic or demodetic) = NEED
Flea = Ctenocephalides felis (cat) / canus (dog)
Deer Tick = Ixodes Scapularis
I don’t know if some of the names I have are the right ones, I need the species of them that affect common pets such as cats & dogs.

Kitten Without Parasites, With Herpes And Diarrhea?

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

My kitten (about 10 weeks) went to the vet a week ago and had a clean bill of health as far as parasites go. he’s ALWAYS lived in a shelter (was born there and bottle fed-rejected by mother) and has not been exposed to parasites that any one knows of. He does, however, have herpes. I had been giving him lysine that I got from the vet twice a day, but i had stopped the last few days because I wasn’t seeing improvement and the vet said not to worry as long as he wasn’t getting conjunctivitis or any severe symptoms. He just has a runny nose. Anyway, recently he started getting extremely runny (basically liquid) stool that makes squirting sounds. I have examined it and still see no parasites ( all of my cats are indoors and the adults are treated for fleas ) He plays normally and I’m maintaining his hydration carefully. Could the diarrhea be from discontinuing the lysine? Ive never heard of this problem before. I tried giving him a couple of spoonfulls of yogurt last night and that didn’t help. I’m hoping to get him in to see the vet tomorrow afternoon if I do some arm twisting. Sorry for the length, I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas what the problem could be? He already eats a sensitive stomach formula because that’s what the adults eat and once he caught on to I couldn’t get him to eat his kitten food.
