My cat is an indoor cat and for many reasons we haven’t gotten her fixed (I was kind of hoping that she’d have kittens someday). Well she got out of the house about a month ago. When she got back, she started eating a lot. Normally I’d only have to feed her once a day or two but now I almost have to feed her twice a day. Now her belly is getting bigger but the rest of her is skinny (she’s always ever been a tiny cat). I thought she could have worms but she doesn’t seem to have any of the symptoms. Her nipples have also gotten bigger. And her attitude…well she’s always ever been pretty affectionate. But I haven’t really noticed her making a typical “nesting” area. What should I watch for? Is she pregnant? If she is, what should I do to help her along?

Don’t change the cat litter when pregnant!
You’ve probably heard about the infection toxoplasmosis in relation to avoiding it during pregnancy by taking precautions with certain foods and the cat’s litter box. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Preventing (CDC), some 60 million people in the United States could have toxoplasmosis. Many of them may not even know it because it can cause an infection that either has no symptoms or symptoms that are common to other illnesses.
So what is toxoplasmosis, exactly? It’s an infection caused by a microscopic parasite that can live inside the cells of humans and animals, especially cats and farm animals.
How It Spreads
People can catch toxoplasmosis from:
touching or coming into contact with infected cat feces (cats get the infection from eating infected rodents, birds, or other small animals)
eating raw or undercooked meat that’s infected
eating uncooked, unwashed fruits or vegetables that have been contaminated by manure

my kitty cat is pregnant, probably about 5-6 weeks along, today I notice that she had one of those rice grain lookin worms around her anus… this is the only one I’ve seen and it was earlier this morning… I’ve called around vets in my area and they all want a lot of money, and right now my husband and I are pinching pennies. Anyway, I read online that you shouldn’t treat pregnant cats for worms unless you go to the vet and get a special de-worming medicine for pregnant cats…. My question is if any of you had something similar to what is going on with me, and if the baby kitties will live? I’m going to get Cupcake (the mama) spayed as soon as she delivers, but I am worried about the babies…. any advice?

Okay, so we have 3 outdoor cats. About a two months ago another (must be stray) cat started hanging around the house and we’ve sorta brought her in. A few weeks into her being with us, we noticed that her abdomen was getting bigger, she was eating more and she had large pink nipples. Since we noticed this she has gotten acceptionally bigger, but yesterday i noticed a worm in her droppings. So – the cat definitly has worms, but is she pregnant? I don’t know what to think because I know when a cat has worms it also eats more and it’s stomach bloats… right? Advice please!

Hi all, my pregnant cat’s nipples look wrong.
I’ve only seen one pregnant cat before, and her nipples were big and pink, looked healthy. My cat instead has black, scabby dots around the nipples and a whitish scab on the tip, all around a darkened appearance. It just doesn’t look right, has anyone had any experience of this?
Hope the photo links below works. They are photos of the last two sets of nipples. http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m270/…http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m270/…
Worrying, isn’t it? She is otherwise healthy, her coat is shiny, she eats plenty and drinks lots, her toilet output normal. This is her first (and last!) litter of kittens and she is about one year old.
Is it a parasite causing this? Is it normal adjustment scabs? Am I worried for nothing? I have booked a vet appointment, but in the meantime I thought I’d ask you guys, to have an idea of what it might be.
Thanks!

Yes and Yes! Check out:http://www.ah.novartis.com/pet_health/en…
They can get hookworm, roundworm(moms give to kittens thru milk), and tapeworms. You can read about these at the website. And yes they can do great harm to the mother and kittens. So I Highly suggest you take the mother the the vet and they will give her dewormer (should be taken to the vet every year for this and other things). Dewormer will take care of everything. But afterwards if they had worms you will see the dead ones in their poop and theres a good chance the dewormer will give her diarrhea for a day or 2 which is normal.
