My Cat Keeps Being Sick, Can Anyone Help?

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

I have a 10 year old persian cat called Sinatra. Since just before Xmas he has been sick almost every night. I’ve tried changing his food, starving him for 24 hours and giving him chicken and rice, we’ve been to the vets and he’s had blood tests which didn’t show anything unusual so the vet gave him an injection to stop the vomitting. First one was a 14 day one, which worked – no sickness for 2 whole weeks. On day 15 he started being sick again, so back to the vets who then gave him an injection that should have lasted a month. That was last Thursday, but on Monday night he started being sick again and has been sick every night since then. I feed him on Whiskas pouches with a small amount of dried food for him to nibble on. He doesn’t go out, has been wormed, he’s still likes to play and as soon as he’s been sick he goes to eat some more. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I just don’t know what to do next.

What Is Causing My Cat To Be Sick?

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

I am seriously having some issues with my cat.(Sorry this will be long) About six months ago my cat just stopped eating and drinking and was losing a ton of weight. We took him to the vet immediately after we noticed he stopped drinking water. The vet ran a whole bunch of tests on him and concluded he had nothing wrong with him. We took him home and he started to eat and drink again. Every now and then won’t eat very much for a few days, and then he’ll snap out of it and start to eat regularly again. His activity level hasn’t changed much through all this, but he wasn’t very active to begin with. His temperament has changed a little. He use to tolerate when our other cats use to try to cuddle or play with him, but now he just hisses and walks away. He hasn’t gained back any of the weight he lost. He’s actually skin and bones. We’ve been feeding him canned kitten food the past two months to get his weight back up, but it isn’t working. Well, in the past few days he started scratching and cleaning himself a ton, and he has stopped using the litter pan and started going in our living room. My mom is worried that he is going into renal failure. When I researched renal failure in cats online I found he didn’t have any of the symptoms, other than he is skinny. We’re taking him to the vet next week, but we’re worried they are going to continue to find nothing wrong. My question is; does anyone have any idea of what is wrong with him? We’ve toyed with virus he can’t seem to get over, parasite, some sort of cancer, depression… we just don’t know. We have two other cats that share water and dry food with him, so we figure if it’s a parasite or virus they would all have a problem. We’re not convinced it’s depression either, because nothing has changed in our house. We can’t figure it out, someone please help. I would be so grateful.

Sick Cat: High White Blood Cells And Weight Loss?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Hi, I don’t know if anyone else dealt with something like this and has any information/advice. My cat is currently at the vets getting some extra treatment, and the vet called me to update but the he had to leave for another appointment. I’m calling him back shortly, but was having trouble wrapping my head around everything he was throwing at me.
My cat (2 years old) had been throwing up. At first just food but then she would be fine for a week, and then this weekend it went downhill and she was throwing up liquid (no blood) and not eating. She also started hiding, and wasn’t nearly as active and affectionate as usual. I monitored her food intake, and it was much but she didn’t throw up at all on Monday, but did late Tuesday night. She goes up to the food bowl like she wants to eat and then decides not to.
She has lost weight and in dehydrated. She stayed at the animal hospital to get fluids, meds for her stomach to try and settle it, and some blood work. When the bloodwork came back, found out she has a high white blood cell count, indicating an inflammation somewhere.
I have a second cat, who is completely fine so it probably not bacteria or a parasite.
The vet gave her a shot of antibiotics and I have the option of taking her home and continue medication, but he said he thought it was serious. My next option is to get an ultrasound, but I don’t know what that will show me that is actually actionable and couldn’t really get a full answer from the vet.
She has a heart murmur, so any surgery is not really an option.
I’m thinking now that I might see how she reacts to the meds and hope for the best, especially since I don’t think I can go anything that will be found from and ultrasound.
I love my cat and want to help her, but also don’t want to put her through any unnecessary tests if I can’t do anything based off of them.
I just wanted to see if anyone else dealt with this and had any thoughts and/or advice.
Thanks so much!

10 Year Old Inside Cat Sick With Same Symptoms As Dog That Was Sick?

Monday, February 15th, 2010

I dog sat my friends puggle for part of the day when she went to class. The dog had been throwing up for a few days and could not keep anything down. But at the same time was not lethargic and seemed hungry and wanted to eat. As of yesterday at 3:30 in the morning my cat has came down with the same symptoms and has not stopped vomiting and dry heaving for more than 24hrs and cannot keep food down. Some water is staying down though and no diarrhea. The dog did vomit in my house 2 times and I cleaned it up right away with disinfectant. I have an apt. with the vet tomorrow because I wanted to wait. Kitty seems hungry but he keeps dry heaving and spitting up saliva every couple hours. He crys out every time. I have not fed him since 4pm yesterday when I gave him a few morsels of food. Can anyone help? Should I go to the dr. tomorrow or wait it out? My friends dog is slowly getting better and the dr. did all tests on him and found no parasites or anything. The dr. put the dog on flagyl. any ideas? is it even possible for a dog to make a cat sick? and if not then this seems pretty coincidental right?

Is It Normal For A Dog To Attack A Mouse? Can She Get Sick?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

I just let my dog out into our fenced backyard. I always keep an eye on her. She sometimes chases moths and it appeared that she was doing that tonight. But when I looked closer, she actually had something in her mouth. It was a mouse from the field behind our house. I was mortified. I ran out there and got her to release it, and it hobbled off. I went back to look for it after I let her in, but to no avail. My dog was basically chewing on it and I feel so bad because I know it is suffering now. Is it possible that it will survive? I feel awful.
And could my dog get parasites from this? I know cats can get them.

Pregnant Cat May Be Sick, Could It Maybe Be A Parasite? Could It Kill The Kittens?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Ok, I have a stray cat that hangs around my house because it was skinny and I started feeding it. She is now huge pregnant and so I’ve let her start living in the house so she can have them in here safely. We’re expecting her to give birth in the next week or two but I’ve noticed that she is that nastiest cat ever. She constantly has runny poop (never seen any solid), and she can fill the litter box in one night (the scooped poop from one day I swear weighs as much as she does). I at first attributed the runny poop to the fact she eats my dog’s wet food but it never stopped. I’m wondering if maybe she has a parasite or something? Can she be treated while pregnant? Could this potentially harm the kittens? She’s normal in every other way, she’s alert, playful, and loving. I think she’s pretty young.
