Was I wrong in assuming that this program was good for ALL worm infestations?
Tape worms. I found white rice length things in my cats poop. Some came out wiggling. Are they definitely tape worms. He is an indoor cat, fully but we just took in a mother cat and kittens and that may be where he got them from.
He is also not acting as normal as usual. He is lethargic and not as playful. He has also gained weight (maybe from the switch to kitten chow for the rest of the cats)
any advice
i will be getting him dewormed but i have to wait for the kittens to go because they are too young to be dewormed and i have no way of confining them so he will get the worms again if i do it now.
it will be another week or so
My cats keep getting tapeworms about every 6 months. We did have a flea problem in the summer time, but we got rid of them. I did research on tapeworms, and they get them from fleas. I vaccum, flea comb the cats, change the litter regularly, and they still get them.
I am not sure if the house being super humid all the time has something to do with it.
I am baffled as to where they come from, and the vet medicine is costing me a fortune!
I have treated her twice and low and behold she still has them! They are little rice looking worms and I really dont have the finances to take her to a vet right now so I need to treat her myself! IS it tape worms maybe I am not treating her right? I have a child and another adult cat in the house I don’t want anyone to get infected. This cat came from an abusive home with lots of fleas I have treated her for the fleas but I need advice on the worms!?! ANYONE!?! HELP!?!?
I am taking my cat to the vet today to get tape worm medicine. He does have it. I am wondering about how much it will cost. If this helps, I live in Indiana. He is a one year old, neutered cat.
Although I am keeping the cat outside for now, she has been living in our house for the last 2 weeks or so… my husband and I have found mobile tapeworm fragments AND flea larvae! I am SO disgusted! I have bleached and vacuumed- what else can I do!? -Grossed out! :-p
If it’s praziquantel, yes. It’s the same thing the vet would prescribe and is death to tapeworms. Use according to the bottle directions. Some cats may need to be treated again several weeks later if there is reinfection. Reinfection comes from the presence of fleas that are carrying tapeworm eggs. If you don’t make sure your cat is not exposed to fleas, it will just get tapeworms again. This should be simple if your cat is an indoor cat (which is safest for cats, limiting the risk of getting hit by a car, attacked by a dog, or catching one of the terminal diseases cats can get).
If your cat goes outdoors your vet can prescribe very effective monthly treatments like Frontline or Revolution that will protect against flea bites. Flea collars are not effective, and may be dangerous, and over the counter spot-on treatments are either not effective or dangerous. Do not use any product containing permethrin, which cats are sensitive to and which can cause fatal poisoning.
I took my cat to the vet about 3 weeks ago to get the de-worming for tape worms and she is still infected. She is on frontline for fleas and never goes outside. She now has signs of tapeworms again! I dont want to take her back to the vet if that obviously didnt help her. So should I buy the over the counter tape worm dewormers that places like 1-800 petmeds offers?
Hello, im in desperate need of help. i have three cats that i took in because they were homeless. Now one of them has tapeworms. Its been happening for several months now and im so tired of spending money on the vet for their meds. I do know that it comes from fleas and i have taken them to the vet for that also which cost a pretty penny. I have used advantage for their fleas and just last month i didnt because its pretty expensive. I have also gotten them de-wormed however it seems to always come back and im sooo tired of dealing with the vet bills. Does anyone know of a safe home remedy that can cure tapeworms? and even if you guys know of anything rather than the expensive flea medicine pleaseeee help me. I love these babies i just dont want to continue spending so much because of them. thanks so much in advance.
We purchase trade winds tape worm tabs for cats and cannot find a single thing telling us how many of these pills our cat should need.
I understand one tab for our cat’s weight…but, does that mean just one and thats it for the treatment?!?
OR does that mean one a day until they are gone?
We have already given him his first pill today, and I need to know as soon as possible about whether we are to give him another or not to continue treatment.
I hope you understand what I am asking. Please anyone who has used these, let me know. I have read the packaging over three times, and have searched online for information but have yet to find anything. I tried calling my vet to ask them, but I was too late and they were closed. (darn birthday party!) so i am resorting to you kind cat owners!
Thank you very much!
