My friends pure bred cats have been in and out of the vet losing body temp, not defecating and not eating. The vet did surgery and the stool was so hard it was scarring the bowel. After investigating the stool, the vet can’t find anything wrong-no foreign particles, no parasites, nothing!

When she poops, she has a lot of tiny white worms that move in it. She hasn’t had a flea treatment in about a month or two, could that have something to do with it? Could it be tapeworm? Could it infect me or my family?

All kittens are born with worms that they get from their mother. Just make sure they are dewrmed starting a 2 weeks of age and deworm them every 2 weeks for 3 treatments. Deworm mom at the same time. AS lond as they are dewormed, it shouldn’t cause any problems. Also make sure you wash your hands are handling them. Although rare, humans can get worms

She does not use a litter box so I don’t know if there are any in feces. They do not look like grains of rice or spaghetti. They’re about 1/8″ long and very thin. Please help.

Ooh, not fun. An older cat of mine had that…can’t recall the name…but you need to go to the vet and get a certain medicine to be given with food.

Not sure what type of worms he has but if he is outside and tends to hunt you may want to worm him regularly.
Go to Walgreens and buy Reeses Human Pinworm Liquid, it is banana flavored and cats seem to be ok with that for my farm cats I use 1 cc per 10 lbs of cat. So I mix it in a saucer of warm milk and feed to each cat about every 3 months or so. It is real cheap and it works exellent for round and hook.
Now for tape worms I buy Tradewind tape worm tabs online or at Petco I think carries it but I think it is cheaper online. It will be a little bottle of 3 pills. Enough to worm him 3 times maybe about every 3 months also. This is if he goes outside and is at constant risk of reinfestation.
And for fleas, I use Advantage it is way cheaper online also. Hint PLAIN OLD ADVANTAGE…….. NOT ADVANTIX To save money you can buy large cat Advantage and split into two doses if you cat is med to small.

my cousin was playing with his dog lastnight and my aunt told him not to let the kiss him becuz he(the dog) had worms, and she also said that if he did let the dog give him kisses that he would get the worms too. Im just wondering if this is all true.

I have called a number of vets and have heard different things. Two say they are extremely contagious and I have to bleach my whole house. Three say tapeworms are only transmitted through fleas so I should treat all animals for fleas and tapeworms. Another vet said they are usually only transmitted through flea bites but if my cat (who now has tapeworms too) ate one of the worms then she could have gotten it that way. I just don’t know what the best treatment is. The new puppy I adopted had tapeworms but none of my animals appear to have any fleas. Wouldn’t you see fleas around ears and belly if the animals had them? Please help me figure out how to prevent the rest of the family from getting sick and how to get rid of the tapeworms permanently.
