Kitten Ear Mite Treatment?

Friday, February 5th, 2010

I have a kitten around 7 or 8 weeks old & he has ear mites. I am wondering if it is safe to treat kittens this young with regular ear mite medication? Also how old to they have to be before you can give them flea prevention & de-worming medicines? He does not have fleas, & as far as I know he doesn’t have worms, but I want to do these things as a precaution. I also want to know how old he should be before I get him neutered & vacinnated? Will he start spraying if I don’t get him neutered by a certain age? Plus, does anyone know if humans can catch mites from a cat infected with ear mites? I tried to find out online, & saw one website that said definitely not, but another website said that you can catch them. If you can catch them, what do you do about it?
Please do not answer my questions unless you actually know what you are talking about, I do not want guesses or made-up answers.
Thanks.

Is Blood In Your Cats Poop Normal After Receiving Treatment For Tapeworm?

Friday, February 5th, 2010

I have recently acquired a 8 yr old male tabby. I discovered that he had a tape worm by the segments he was leaving on my bed. Upon speaking with his previous owner, i found out that he had be exposed to fleas about a 1 1/2 years ago. Poor kitty has had this parasite inside him for that long. I was a little angry. I treated him with praziquantel for the tapeworm 2 weeks ago. I have since found blood in his stool. Is this just the worm dying? How long should I expect to see this? I’m not sure if I should take him to the vet. He seems healthy. He has a good appetite, and drinks a normal amount of water. He is also very playful for an 8 yr old. I’m just not sure what to do.

Heartworm Treatment For Dogs.?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

I have a Golden Retriever and through everything he has been through, he keeps his spirits. I will tell everyone $12000 dollars later, neurologist, Texas Am, my vet. -No diagnosis ever found. First he could not urinate, or have bowel movements. I had to express him several times a day. The vet said three times daily, but I know I have to go to the restroom more often than this. He was sore and it was painful to his bladder and easily noticed. But he let me help him and would of course feel better. His tail did not work and his feces fell out on free will. Every blood test, test, xray , all negative. He showed to have a light case of heartworms. He came home after 1 1/2 mo from the neuro clinic and it was like visiting a human to keep up his spirit. His coat was bad, hair falling out. He had previous skin alergies. Then Texas AM for two weeks. 16 bottles of med he had. Antibiotics, valium and every other pill. My gosh that I felt this would kill any human. How can your system or body ever work with all that poisen. What I did…I took his off of his normal purina, and Eukanuba dog food after seeing the DOG Food secret web site, I put him on a dog food that didnt show to have processed meat at the immediate beginning of the ingredients. Which is chopped up dog and road kill and whatever else they stick in their before it gets to the plants and the goverment does verification its ok. Anyway, I put him on Raw diet in the beginning and yes cooked for him. Now a natural and not the grocery store so called natural, a real dogfood that is completely natural. I took him off all medication. His tail began to work again. He can now urinate but it comes out on its own. I help daily but he seems to not be full with only small urine expelling. .He is obviously expelling. WHen he runs he sprays all over the yard. So yes he is receiving an empty bladder and I do check. His bowel still freely expel, but at least they expel. His hair has came back and he is gaining weight. I am about to start using cloves of garlic daily, wormwood, black walnut, clove for the heart worms. also going to try another natural herb remedy. Everything I read, this seem to work like a God sent. Hope this maybe helps with his other symptoms he didnt receive a diagnosis for $12000.00 later. Wish him luck and any suggestion would be appreciated. Please nothing rude. I love him very much and a great dog. He is 5, a Golden and such a trooper. Plus, his medical is more than 2 kids, mine and spouse put together. We do not have any and he has made up for us not. He is a great dog. We have a long haired Dach. that wouold miss him, Also we have a new black lab puppy. A lady was going to put her dogs liter of puppies down if homes were not found. My daughters friend gathered all the puppies or the next day they were taken off for this in humane treatment. Sad someone would do something like that. She also took them from their mom at 4 wks. I am going to start my new puppy on garlic in a few weeks. Hopefully with this she will be issue free. My daughters cat Marlie is going to go insane with the dog community and guess I am going to have to get her fixed. She is in constant heat every other week and she seems miserable. First, I thought she was an amazing cat and learned to bark from listing the our two dogs in the back. No, I had never had a cat. Anything aloud to freeley use a box in the house was not to exciting for me. But shes great and my daughter 2x a day handles the box. Just call our house the misfits. I notice yesterday our puppy is beginning to shed her puppy black hair. We have white carpet and I will be losing my mind on this one. I have a vacuum almost in every room. Well 7 to be exact. I have noticed she has more than normal strong puppy breath. She seems after waking and sometime during the day has a very sticky dry mouth. Its like her tongue get stuck and she pulls it off the rough. as real dry and heavy. . She drinks plenty of water, have not found any worms. But does have way too many bowel movements. i think I take her out every 30min, not that she goes this much but at 6 to 8 a day is this normal? I have raised labs, always had dogs and I dont remember this active of bowels in any of them. The dry mouth has me concerned and her stomach gets upset about every other day at least once a day. Figured due to maybe a change in food, being young-now 6 1/2 weeks and if we leave down the cat food for marlie to eat, she seems to find it. I will never be able to leave the house again. Misfits kennel- White carpet and the carpet cleaning company on call 24/7. I may start drinking.

Tapeworm Treatment? Help My Kitties!!?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I’ve had my older cat for about 4 years now, and he’s been relatively healthy. I bought a new 8 month old kitty in December to keep him company. Since, then they’ve both been battling soft stools and diarrhea. My older cat also started acting very irritable.
First they were treated with a week of antibiotics, which I had a hard time getting them to eat. They also had a liquid medicine for worms.
That seemed to work until I stopped the medicine. Soft, smelly, yellow stools came back, and my older cat got very irritiable. MY vet then recommended a bland diet for a month. They barely went to the bathroom on the bland diet, and they both seemed in good spririts. My older cat lost some weight. He needed to anyway. But once I started trying the regular cat food, the soft poo/diarrhea came back again.
So, the vet then tested for parasites again, and found nothing. He gave them antibiotics for a month, combined with a bland diet. Both working very well.
Once I started them on a new dry food, they started pooping normally for about a day or two. Then I found something in the stool that was white and looked like a ribbon. I thought that it could be tapeworm, but I shrugged it off, thinking one of them ate something weird.
The next day though, they started having really bad diarrhea! The vet was going to put them back on antibiotics, until I told him about the ribbon thing.
He then gave me a topical tapeworm treatment, and of course I think the cats shook a lot of it off when I applied it.
I don’t know what to think about this anymore. How will I know if the tapeworm treatment works? They took it about 3 days ago, and are only eating boiled chicken again, but they are still having some small squirts. And to make matters worsre, they are always stepping in it and spreading it around the house. UGH!!
They don’t seem to have the type of tapeworm that releases mobile segmentsm thankfully! Help, I’m afraid that they’re not getting all the nutrients they need on the bland diet.

What Is The Best Dewormer And Flea Control Treatment Now?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I need to go buy some Frontline Plus or an other flea control system. We had a outbreak from disturbing dirt. Being cold I did not give them there Frontline.
I am wondering if there is something new or better on the market. I think the fleas are getting over the Frontline. It worked for years but now seems to be puttering out.
Of course the dogs and cats got worms from the fleas. I seen a worm on a kitty tush. (Yuk) I am guessing the others have them also.
So what is the best broad spec dewormer at the vets?
I am heading to the vet tomorrow. So thanks for the heads up on what to buy.

I’m Searching For A Natural Treatment For Cat Dander?

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

I have an adorable, 1 year old tabby cat. He has had an ongoing case of dandruff for the past several months, and any treatment we have tried doesn’t seem to help. He was diagnosed with a mild possible allergy to fleas on his last annual vet check-up, and is completely up-to-date on vaccinations. He had a severe infestation of fleas 4 months ago, and has been using Advantage parasite control ever since. Please keep in mind that I am looking for a NATURAL, safe dander control for my precious boy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My Cat Got A Flea Treatment Today At The Vet, But Every Once In A While I See A Live Flea Crawling On Her??

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

I have seen at least five fleas crawling in her fur since I took her home, did the treatment not work? Or will these fleas die soon because of the chemicals or whatever on her?
i know they are fleas because i picked one off with a tissue and it definitely is a flea because i took a parasite class so i know what they look like at least!

My Cat Has Diarrhea, Even After Expensive Vet Treatment?

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

I took my cat to the vet a couple of months ago, and after paying 150 brutal dollars, they gave a “revolution” treatment for the cat for parasites. I’ve used the treatment and I doubt my cat has anymore parasites, but she just started to have diarrhea again. She doesn’t seem to be lethargic, she’s very energetic and I don’t think she’s in pain at all. The poop just makes an absolutely awful smell, even in the litter box.
I checked online everywhere and they all say I should take her to the vet, but it cost way too much and didn’t even cure her. I was just wondering if there’s any household remedies that I could try to solve this problem? I’m poor, I can’t afford another failed treatment.
I’ve tried:
Switching a brand of cat food, switching to high-protein.
Feeding them brown rice (didn’t work as she didn’t know how to chew the rice)
Please help my kitten.
