Cat Is Losing Weight, Fecal Test Was Normal, Blood Is Normal, What’s Wrong?

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

I have a 1 1/2 year old male cat. About 8 weeks ago we noticed he had lost a lot of weight almost over night (about 8 lbs). I’ve dewormed him with whip, tape and round worm wormers. His fecal tests were all negative but we wormed him again anyway. His blood tests are normal, negative for FIV or Heartworm. He eats normal, drinks lots of water, bowels are normal (no worms), no vomitting, very active still, friendly and playful. Just losing lots of weight. I also have a 1 year old female cat and she is not sick at all. They share food and water bowls and share a litter box. She is an inside/outside cat, he is strictly inside. Neither one have fleas.
The only thing wrong with him is reoccuring ear mites. Would ear mites cause weight loss like this? She does NOT have ear mites.

Whats Wrong With My Cat?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

I know, I know, I should ask the vet, and of course I want to, but my mother is not one to favor this cat, and she only allowed her in the first place because she has a job. She is a mouser and bug-eater, she does her job well, but is a dear cat to me.
Heres the deal, She grew up the first six months as a semi-ferrel cat at a fire academy. She had a traumatic experience at the age of two months, where she was lost and starved for two weeks. She made a great recovery and was a normal (but somewhat violent cat) for seven years.
I noticed that she started licking the fur off her stomach this year, and the licking spread to her front arms, inside of hind quarters and now the outside of them.
She sometimes purrs constantly, which is VERY out of character for her. This purring is accompanied by labored breathing at times.
Recently her abdomen has been firm feeling as well.
I’m thinking a long term worm or parasite infection. Im going to try to get her to a vet ASAP.
Thanks you guys.

What’s Wrong With My Pregnant Cat?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Hi all, my pregnant cat’s nipples look wrong.
I’ve only seen one pregnant cat before, and her nipples were big and pink, looked healthy. My cat instead has black, scabby dots around the nipples and a whitish scab on the tip, all around a darkened appearance. It just doesn’t look right, has anyone had any experience of this?
Hope the photo links below works. They are photos of the last two sets of nipples. http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m270/…http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m270/…
Worrying, isn’t it? She is otherwise healthy, her coat is shiny, she eats plenty and drinks lots, her toilet output normal. This is her first (and last!) litter of kittens and she is about one year old.
Is it a parasite causing this? Is it normal adjustment scabs? Am I worried for nothing? I have booked a vet appointment, but in the meantime I thought I’d ask you guys, to have an idea of what it might be.
Thanks!

What Are Wooval Worms In Cats And Can Humans Get Them? Whats The Correct Spellin Of This Word? Help Me Please!

Monday, February 15th, 2010

There are 2 types of worms that can be passed from cats to humans…Roundworms and Hookworms.
The eggs of these worms are sticky and can get stuck on your hands or under your fingernails, and if you don’t wash up well enough, you could ingest the eggs and get worms.
I don’t know what “wooval” worms are, though.
I work at an animal hospital after school as a tech assistant, and I just learned how to find worm eggs in fecals under a microscope. Hope this helps.

Cat With Bloody, Soft Moist/diarrea, Foul Smelling, Gas Whats Wrong With Him?

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

He My cat has very foul smelling poop, common to have red blood and mucus. He has soft moist/diarrea with every bowel movement. I have had him for a year now and has had these problems since I bought him as a kitten. He always gets gas when I feed him. Iv tried every brand of food at the pet store wet and dry. Iv taken him to the vet 4 times. Done full blood work and stool samples no parasites. I just cant stand the smell anymore and sometimes he gets blood on the carpet from his butt after a bowel movement. Whats wrong with him… vets dont even knowhas normal behavior with no weight loss. Vet say hes a normal weight. Hes active and likes to play..

Whats Wrong With This Puddy Tat?? :(?

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

there was a cat that kept sittin by our backdoor when it was rainin/cold, to stay warm (we have a catflap), then he moved in abit more an slept on the kitchen side, then the sofa lol! we have a cat already so we put down extra food for him.
he’s long haired lovely looking cat, but had matted/greasy fur, which has scabs, flakey skin & blood in (we’ve given him treatment for fleas although he doesnt scratch alot n my mum checked him for fleas & ***** see any) bumps on his neck, 1 of his front teeth are missing, and hes SUPER skinny, hes been here about 2 weeks, and eats & drinks alot. anything we leave on the side in the kitchen he’ll try an eat, my mum got really pissed off she made a whole big plate of tandoori chicken for us and he ate the LOT (then was sick on our carpet)
anywayy we’ve learnt to hide any food! and hes actually a really nice cat he sits on our laps an loves attention, gently nibbles if u stop stroking him! and he never leaves our house!!
so we’re guessin he was a stray.. should we just carry on feedin him an treatin him as our own cat? and why is he so skinny when he eats alot, could it be worms? and all the blood and scabs on his back what could that be? x

Whats Wrong With My Kitten?

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

So i’ve had a kitten for about 2 weeks now, i don’t know his exact age but i would estimate it between the 4-8 week mark. The last couple of days he’s become very depressed, ignores his toys, Eats his food only to throw it up again later. I’ve inspected the anus area for signs of worms but havent found anything substancial. The cat has fleas But i’ve commenced flea treatments and he is now wearing a flea collar to keep them under control.
Can anyone tell me whats wrong with him?
as best to my knowledge, he has NOT been vaccinated.
Will vaccinations help him?
